Why does the style of 1 Peter and 2 Peter differ?
27.09.2022
There are multiple views on how to explain the stylistic differences between the two letters, these are:
- Peter was able to write in multiple different styles and purposefully used different vocabulary in the letters.
- 1 Peter was written with an amanuensis while 2 Peter was written by Peter's own hand.
- Jude was the amanuensis or a co-author of 2 Peter as there are significant similarities with the letter of Jude and 2 Peter
- Peter was unable to read and write and thus used an amanuensis for both letters.
- A more radical and less convincing explanation is that students could use the name of their teachers, without being seen as morally wrong.
